Miss Mila and Her Now 4-Year-Old Self

Little Miss Mila is no longer "little": yesterday she turned 4 and she is definitely looking more and more like a girl than a toddler.  This breaks my heart a bit, but I am always amazed at the person she is becoming.

To celebrate her birthday, we did the standard "doughnuts with candles" thing in the a.m. and then had a family party in the p.m.  It was Paw Patrol themed, complete with a "Pin the Badge on the Zuma" (her favorite Paw Patrol character.  She had such a wonderful day.

As she moves into being a 4-year-old, here are some things I want to remember:

Sweetisms:

  • Everyone is her "best friend".  She loves to be with people and loves to play.
  • She is the feistiest girl I know.  She is strong in her opinions and will let you know what she wants and when she wants it.
  • She is snuggly.  She likes to use people as lounge chairs.
  • Before bed every night, she comes into our room and asks to read one last book.  Of course we let her and we love it.
  • Her favorite book is the Very Hungry Caterpillar.  She knows every word and can even read this book to us.
  • She loves her brothers.  She plays hide-and-seek with Kaeden, sneaks around with Bennett before bed, whispering and plotting, and loves telling Kai how cute he is "You're so cute, Baby Kai, aren't you?  Aren't you??".
  • She LOVES to sing in the car.  Everything from Uptown Funk to Let It Go.  She is absolutely tone-deaf which makes it both the most adorable thing you'll see and something that hurts your ears (simultaneously).
  • Every day, we make sure she knows she is loved by asking her, "Who's my sweet girl?" to which she will reply "ME!".  It is then followed with "Who's my sassy girl... spunky girl... smart girl... stinky girl (she think's it's funny), special girl, strong girl, stubborn girl..."... the list goes on and on.  My hope for her is to someday feel strong, empowered, and to know that she can do anything she actually puts her mind to.

Tyranny:
  • If she doesn't like when you sing with her, she ever-so-not-politely says, "I want to sing by myself", and then everyone but her in the car needs to be silent or she will scream it over and over until you stop.
